In this blog post, I share with you 10 places to visit in Strasbourg, France. They all are based on my experience after living for 4 years in Strasbourg.
Strasbourg is one of the three main capitals of the European Union. It is the largest city in the Grand East region in France and is well known for its famous Christmas Market. Also, the historic city center, known as the “Grande Île”, is one of UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites. Whether you are planning a trip to Strasbourg, or find yourself near the city these are my 10 must-visit places to go to.

1. The Strasbourg Cathedral
The Strasbourg Cathedral or Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Strasbourg is one of the most astonishing cathedrals I have ever seen in France. Its architectural style is both Romanesque and Gothic.
What you need to know:
- Entry: free
- Visits: every day
- Entrance to climb the cathedral platform: paid entrance, but free on the first Sunday of each month.
I just learned that there is a paid app called POPGUIDE that guides you around the cathedral. It is available in 7 languages. If you are interested here is the official site.

2. La Petite France
La Petite France is the most known district of Strasbourg and in my opinion the most beautiful. Whenever you google Strasbourg, the traditional half-timbered houses of this place appear. It is with no doubt a breathtaking place that you cannot miss as well as a very Instagrammable place.
My recommendations:
- Eat at Au Pont Saint-Martin. You can make an online reservation here or,
- Do a picnic along the river
- Walk along the river
- Take a picture at the Pont du faisan
- Take a picture at Pont Couverts
3. Parc de l’Orangerie
The Parc de l’Orangerie is located near the European Parliament as well as the Council of Europe.
My recommendations:
- Do a picnic near the lake
- Go for a run or walk around the park
- Borrow and read a book from the book cabin near the lake (most books are in French)
4. Rohan Palace
This palace used to be the home of the prince-bishops and cardinals of the house Rohan. But, now there are three museums located there: the Museum of decorative arts, the Archeological Museum, and the Museum of Fine Arts.

5. The Jardin des Deux Rives
On the border with Germany, you will find the Jardin des Deux Rives. It is a beautiful place to go to during summer, especially by bike.
My recommendations:
- Go grocery shopping in Kehl, Germany
- Rent a bicycle to visit the park and the city
- Do a picnic along the river
- During summer, go to the music festivals
6. The Opera
The Opéra national du Rhin offers a variety of events, whether if it is music, dance, theatre.

7. The Place Kléber
The Place Kléber is a central square, which is located next to the cathedral and near La Petite France. You can find a wide variety of restaurants, coffee shops, bakeries, clothing shops, and more. With no doubt, it is a must-visit place to go to.
Tip: there is a free underground toilet here.
8. Alsatian Museum
I recommend you to visit the Alsatian Museum if you are interested in learning more about the culture.

Climb the Panoramic Terrace of the “Barrage Vauban” for free to get a great view.
