What are anchor links?
HTML anchor links or jump links are a type of link that you can add to your website or blog. Their main purpose is to send you to a specific part of that same post. For example, in this one, you can see that I added a “table of contents”. If you click on “how to add anchor links?”, you will be sent to that specific part of this post.
The great benefit of doing this is that you will make it easier for your readers to go through your content. Mostly, when it is a long post.
How to add anchor links
Now, let’s add anchor links to your post.
1. Go to your post
The first thing that you have to do is go to your WordPress dashboard. Then, to the post that you want to edit or create a new one.
2. Select your text
Next, select the text that you want to add an anchor link.
3. Go to Settings
After, go to settings, which is the icon next to the “publish” button.
4. HTML Anchor section
Go to the “block” tab and scroll down till you find the “advanced” section. Once you click on it, you will find the “HTML anchor“.
5. Name your HTML anchor
Now, it is time to name your HTML anchor by separating it with a dash. It is recommended for you to add keywords related to that section. Also, you are free to capitalize it to make it more readable.
6. Add link
Go to the section of your post where you want to add this link. For instance, in my case, I added the “table of contents” section. Then, click on the link icon, next to the italic icon (I). Type # + HTML anchor name and click on the arrow. You are done!
